Overview:

Minoxidil Tablets IP 2.5 mg are oral medications primarily used for the treatment of severe hypertension (high blood pressure) that is resistant to other treatments. Minoxidil works as a vasodilator, meaning it relaxes and widens blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more easily, which reduces blood pressure.

In some cases, oral minoxidil is also used off-label to treat androgenetic alopecia (hair loss), particularly in patients who cannot tolerate or do not respond to topical treatments.

Composition:

Each tablet contains:

• Minoxidil IP – 2.5 mg (Active ingredient)
• Excipients – q.s. (Inactive ingredients that may include binders, fillers, and stabilizers)

Mechanism of Action:

Minoxidil opens potassium channels in smooth muscle cells of blood vessels, leading to vasodilation, which decreases vascular resistance and lowers blood pressure. This also promotes increased blood flow to hair follicles when used for hair loss.

Indications:

• Primary indication: Severe or resistant hypertension (used with a diuretic and beta-blocker to prevent side effects like fluid retention and tachycardia)
• Off-label use: Hair regrowth in androgenetic alopecia (under medical supervision)

Dosage:
